How to build a clear institutional message before any campaign

Five practical steps to settle the message before spending a riyal on production or advertising.

Many campaigns start with “What do we produce?” when the earlier question is “What do we want the audience to understand?” When that answer is missing, work is duplicated, voices multiply and impact becomes hard to measure.

1. State the objective in one sentence

Write what should change after the campaign: knowledge, attitude or behaviour. If it cannot be written in one sentence, it is not ready yet.

2. Name the audience precisely

“The general public” is not an audience. State the group, the context and the channel through which you reach them.

3. Choose one central idea

A central idea is a short line that can be repeated across every asset without losing meaning.

4. Back the message with evidence

Every claim in the message needs support that can be demonstrated. What cannot be demonstrated is removed or worded cautiously.

5. Decide how you will measure

Agree success indicators before launch: what will count as success, where the data will come from, and when it will be reviewed.

A clear message does not guarantee success on its own, but it makes every later decision in production, advertising and events easier, cheaper and more consistent.
